The Dove is a symbol of the soul and of peace, innocence, gentleness and purity. Two Doves together are considered a sign of marital love and fidelity. Doves are held sacred in many countries. In Greek legend the Dove was linked to Aphrodite, the infant Zeus, the Fates, and the Furies.
Sparrow ~ Awakening and Triumph of Common Nobility ~
In the Old Testament, the Sparrow is viewed as a symbol of solitude and loneliness, while in the New Testament, this small bird represents lowliness and insignificance. However, it is also associated with fertility, and in Greek mythology, it is linked to Aphrodite, goddess of love. In Japan, the Sparrow is traditionally a symbol of loyalty, perhaps because of its sociable nature.
TREES
Fig ~ Enlightenment, Awakening the Intuitive and Feminine Natures, Releasing Blockages, Enhancing Creative Forces Within, Divination, Fertility, Love ~
The fruit of the Fig tree, with its many seeds, represents the feminine realm, fertility and prosperity. A basket of Figs symbolizes woman as goddess or mother. The fruit has erotic symbolism and was sacred to Bacchus, god of wine and vegetation. Adam and Eve covered their nakedness with leaves from the Fig tree.
To charm any man or woman, give them a Fig. They will be spellbound by your presence, as long as they like Figs.
Write a question on a Fig leaf. If the leaf dries slowly, the answer is yes, or it is a good omen. If it dries quickly just the opposite.
Ash ~ Sacrifice, Sensitivity, and Higher Wisdom ~
The Ash tree has great mysticism and power associated with it. In the Norse tradition, it was called Yggdrasil, the great tree of life. It is a doorway to many dimensions of the faerie realm. Its spirit is strong and holds the knowledge of how events and people are linked together. It can teach the magic of poetry and how to weave words into powerful effects.
Pear ~ Longevity, Luck and Money ~
Pear trees can continue to bear fruit for as long as 300 years, according to ancient Chinese lore. Due to their extraordinary longevity, Pears are eaten to impart magical life extension to humans. Athene was worshipped as the mother of Pear trees in ancient Greece; in Russia, cows were protected with Pear charms. In the U.S., Pears are eaten for good "luck" on Thanksgiving.
Apple ~ Magic, Eternal Youth, Beauty and Happiness, Love, Desire, Fertility, Redemption, Perceptive Decisions, Shrewdness ~ Magical Association: Love, Healing, Garden Magic, Immortality
The Apple, especially if red, symbolizes love and fertility, and is an emblem of Venus as love and desire. Its round shape indicates eternity and also the earth. In the Bible, the Apple represents temptation, although as an attribute of the Virgin Mary, it means redemption.
The Apple tree has many magical faerie characteristics associated with it. It is home to one of the fantastic creatures found within the faerie realm - the Unicorn. Traditionally, the Unicorn lives beneath the Apple tree. The Apple tree's spirit will often take the form of a beautifully enticing woman who can open the heart to new love.
White Birch ~ To Protect or Shelter, Graceful, Clear Purpose ~ Magical Association: Undertaking new projects, making a fresh start in life
The beautiful, white Birches with their slender, pale trunks seems to embody an ideal of graceful femininity. A stand of white Birches against a clear blue sky expresses a positive light-filled grace that is unequaled in the kingdom of trees.
The word Birch may be derived from the ancient Sanskrit bharg meaning shining, or possibly from bhurga which is "a tree whose bark is good to write upon". The word may come to us from the Anglos-Saxon beorgan, "to protect or shelter".
Less poetically, it may be derived from the Latin batuere, "to strike". A bundle of Birch rods surrounding an axe was the ancient symbol of the Roman empire's power to punish by flogging (the Birch rods), or death (the axe).
Cypress ~ Understanding of role or sacrifice, Immortality ~
Associated with Pluto, Roman god of death, the evergreen Cypress is nevertheless a symbol of immortality. It was thought to have the power to preserve bodies and so was, and still is, often grown in graveyards. In China, it represents death, but also the feminine realm.
